Another Hack Repaired

This being a WordPress site I found an instance of the dirty old ”eval(base64_decode” code-injection sitting on the 404.php page of a theme I had downloaded a while back. With the help of the Moai Away Team and many hours of frustration I have once again cleaned and secured the site.

Alright Minneapolis, I’m on to your bipolar weather scene and now I am geared up and ready to tackle week 3 of 30 Days of Biking with a vengeance. This weekend I adjusted my chain and rewrapped my handlebars, pulled out the rain pants and bought plenty of ramen noodles. The city awaits, and I am rolling into that great unknown. Bike don’t fail me now!

And today finds me on the campus of MCAD and if you aren’t familiar with MCAD then it would be pointless for me to explain because chances are you are a mindless consumer drone. What I’m doing here is obvious. I am assisting another human being from becoming yet another cog in the consumer machine. Art. It’s the thing.

The Moai The Merrier

It should come as no surprise that my latest art kick is revolving around the little moai heads that I have been casting by the dozen. In case you didn’t know, I have a hell of a time staying focused on any particular project and my typical behavior leads me to begin working on something for a while and then I get distracted and put that project on hold to begin work on my new interest and then something else comes along and then you can see where this goes. Ultimately I do get back to the original projects and this creative process has the added benefit of keeping plenty of work ongoing in my studio. But for now, enjoy the moai.

Change Is Not Human Nature

For example, they are doing construction on the roads in and around the campus of the University of Minnesota and as a result there are several detours you are forced to take in order to avoid the work being done. For the past several weeks there was a section that forced all traffic to share the right hand lane in order to cross through an intersection that is undergoing a lot of work. Today they changed the flow of traffic over to the left hand lane and as a result almost ever driver coming from either direction was momentarily stymied by this change, myself included. It didn’t matter that they had put up new signage to indicate the direction of traffic, we had all become accustomed to the previous method. We were comfortable and familiar with it even though we didn’t necessarily like it. But things changed and so we followed our instinct to fight that change. Just like now. The Occupy Wall Street and other Occupy movements represent change.

Stay Frosty Comrades

As I look out over the crowd this evening it warms my heart to see such diversity. This is not a crowd of hippies or college students or radicals, rather it is a crowd of American citizens who are fed up and disillusioned at the current state of affairs in this country. The Occupy Wall Street movement is not about regime change. We don’t want welfare, we want jobs. We don’t hate business, we want fairness. We don’t want handouts, we want justice. We understand that this movement might still confuse you and that is okay. We want you to join us but understand that you may not be ready. In the meantime we will continue to fight for fairness and justice for all Americans.

For now, just stay frosty comrades.

The American Dream

Someone once said, if you repeat a lie often enough it becomes the truth.

The American Dream. Wake up America, that dream ended a long time ago. The American Dream is now a carrot on a stick that is being dangled in front you so that you will be lulled into a sense of complacency. While many of you have been pursuing the American Dream a huge share of the nation’s economic growth over the past 30 years has gone to the top one-hundredth of one percent, who now make an average of $27 million per household. The average income for the bottom 90 percent of us? $31,244. Yes, there are people in America living the dream but it ain’t you. In 2010, CEO’s were making 343 times what the average worker took home. But most of you do not care about this obscene gap because you are too busy watching the latest episode of your favorite show or downloading music or wondering when the next iPhone will be available. Nobody complains as long as their ability to consume is unaffected. You are blissfully complacent. Ignorance is the new American Dream.

Wake up America.
