The Wet and Dirty Side of Art

image

When most people think of the artist they imagine an individual who sleeps late, dresses funky and hangs out at all the hip places but there is also another side to the artist.  That is to say if the artist practices the arcane science of screen printing.  Reclaiming a screen is a wet and dirty job that must be done and for those of us unable to afford an assistant it is a job we do alone.

On Preparing To Show My Art

I’m booked into two upcoming art shows, one in September and one in October and procrastination is kicking in already.  I have a pretty good idea what pieces I’ll be showing but I need to decide how to frame and display them.  Also, I’m dwelling over the type and color of paper to use.  And, I am dragging my feet just a little because I need to produce these pieces soon.  Plus, I’ve been playing MW2 instead of working on the art.  So, I need to get busy.  However, I work best at the last minute with time running out because I live life out on the edge.  For now, I will sip some more coffee and dwell a little bit longer.

Screen Print: The Guild Theatre

Artist’s proof of The Guild Theatre in Portland, Oregon. Originally opened as the Taylor Street Theatre, it was operating as the Guild Theatre since 1948, and was renovated in 1956. It was last used by the Northwest Film Center for film festivals. This screen print was based off a photograph I took of the sign in 2002.
