I woke up this morning and peeked out the bedroom window and was greeted by a brisk, sunny landscape. Granted, the landscape included a view of the trailer park behind my apartment complex but still, it was gorgeous. The ride into work was chilly but enjoyable and it got me to reminiscing about my days back in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mornings on the high desert are just like this, chilly and sunny with clear skies as far as you can see.

Another random item is this. Portland keeps getting all this recognition as being a bike friendly city yet I find it to be one of the more hostile places to ride a bike. Albuquerque was downright hospitable and safe.

Dig it. I’m losing focus now but just remember, do not discount Albuquerque when it comes to bike friendly places in the United States. And for the record, I love Oregon.

At one point I had set up a formal portfolio and then during some routine cleanup I decided do delete everything and then start over except that I forgot the part about setting up a new portfolio. Now begins the long process of reviewing my digital photographs and sorting them into galleries so that when someone asks for the link to my portfolio I won’t be left standing there with my mouth open and a blank stare in my eyes.

I have began with my collection of cycling themed photographs, most of them taken with the camera on my cell phone. The resolution and quality is not the best but I wanted to display images that were dear to my heart, and as you know, I am a cycling fiend.

[[Show as slideshow]]

The second gallery will hold my collection of images that were taken when I lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is a work in progress and currently contains images from the campus of the University of New Mexico but will be expanded to feature shots taken all over the city of Albuquerque.

Duke City Day

And today is all about Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Duke City. I lived there back in 2006-2007 and loved every minute of it. Why did I leave if I loved it so much? Because I am an Oregonian and can’t handle being away from the Northwest. It’s in my blood. But Albuquerque is a great city.

That’s right, the Isotopes are the minor league baseball team from The Simpsons and they are the real life minor league baseball team in Albuquerque. Amazing. And then there is Satellite Coffee. I am a coffee lover and this is one the biggest things I miss about Albuquerque.

I know that one day my travels will take me back to Albuquerque, but until then, I still have the great memories of having lived in a great city.

As the chilly days of winter are now upon us it is time to reflect on the necessities of life in the Pacific Northwest. Coffee. And plenty of it. But I also need to pay my respects to one of the best damned coffee places that I have ever had the pleasure to frequent in my many travels. When in Albuquerque, New Mexico make it a point to visit Satellite Coffee. You’ll find a relaxed atmosphere and of course, great coffee.

One of the great pleasures I discovered while living in Albuquerque, New Mexico was a local chain of of coffee houses called Satellite Coffee. My favorite location was located at 3513 Central Avenue NE on historic Route 66. Satellite Coffee was always inviting, the coffee was generally pretty good and each location was laid out in such a way that you were always comfortable relaxing on the chairs or sofas.
