In regards to the NBC television series Heroes. Evil superhuman Sylar is cast as the scourge of humanity yet every time the good guys get the opportunity to permanently dispose of him they drop the ball. Granted, he has some new found power due to having been cast as the “new” Spock in the rebooted Star Trek franchise but even before this happened there were so many opportunities in the first three seasons of Heroes in which Sylar could have been destroyed. And now I find myself watching season 4 and can’t suspend my disbelief any further. I understand that Sylar is a key character in the Heroes universe so why not just write the scripts in such a way that he is simply invincible and that way I do not have to cringe each time the good guys fail to stop him.

Growing up I was a huge fan of the original Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits but of course I was too young to have seen them during their original runs on network television. Both The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits were reborn during the 80′s and 90′s and it was during these new runs that I became a fan all over again.
Thanks to hulu.com and an extremely cold December, I have been getting entertained by the second coming of The Outer Limits. This was the relaunch of the classic series that began in 1995. It still retained the same good story-lines as the original and of course it benefited from better special effects. You could always count on seeing a great science fiction story unfold before your eyes and many episodes caught you with an unexpected plot twist as seen in season 1, episode 5, titled “Second Soul” that aired on 14 April 1995. It featured a story about a dying race of parasitic aliens that came to Earth in search of recently deceased human bodies to serve as hosts. I won’t spoil it for you but if you get the chance I highly recommend this particular episode.
If anthology type shows and science fiction are not your thing then The Outer Limits may not interest you. But if you enjoy good writing and good stories within this genre then head on over to hulu.com and watch it today, for free. Rumor has it that hulu.com is going to start charging it’s viewers in 2010 and now that Comcast has bought NBC Universal I do not doubt these rumors one bit.
