What you are about to read is true. The facts have been mostly retained but I am relying on my memory to provide the details and fill in any gaps. I am a Moai Red Shirt and these are my confessions.

I came into the fleet as a young, idealistic Moai who was seeking adventure but what I found was a world filled with unimaginable decadence and deceit. Today I consider myself lucky to still be in one piece but it wasn’t always like this. Stay tuned and you will come to learn my story, my life and the people and things that I have encountered as a Moai Red Shirt.

Minneapolis. It lives up to its reputation as being cold in the winter. Coming from Portland, Oregon I was a little anxious about experiencing a winter in the Twin Cities but now that I have survived my first blizzard I am beginning to enjoy this cold place. Yesterday found me walking along the Mississippi River on the Stone Arch Bridge and having a great time shooting photographs. I am amazed out how quickly I have acclimated to days that barely get above single digits and nights that are below zero.

So yeah, I have two websites, my twitter account and of course, Facebook and I am pretty much posting something to at least one of those sources on a daily basis. The funny thing is this, I hate typing on a keyboard. Call me ancient or call me a relic but the truth of the matter is I still enjoy writing with a pen and paper.

It just dawned on me this morning when I was thinking about the next script for Special Report. It made me realize that when I just go to the computer and start writing dialog it can feel so tedious that I want to stop immediately. But if I pull out a pad of paper and a pen, the writing process becomes much more enjoyable.

Even now as I am writing this post I get that feeling of wanting to rush through the process just so I can stop pounding on the keyboard. But I suppose that it is a necessary evil that I must endure. For one thing, my computer does not run out of ink and my cats aren’t able to run across the monitor leaving little kitty paw prints. Well, that’s it. I’ve said my piece and now it’s time to finish my morning coffee.

I awoke to day 3 of National Novel Writing Month a little bit behind the curve. Yesterday was a busy day for me personally and I was not able to write a single word so now I have to make up for some lost time but also make sure that I do not simply write down a bunch of garbage just to get my word count back up. So far things are looking pretty good. I just need to keep the coffee flowing and the distractions to a minimum.

I heard a crashing noise come from the other room and that began Sunday, October 24. I was up and the dog was immediately in my face letting me know that she needed to go outside and take care of business. But first I had some business of my own to attend to. So I got up and started a pot of coffee and then I hitched up the dog and we ventured into the backyard. After the dog had her fun we went back inside the house and because of my keen ability to plan ahead, the coffee was ready. So here I am, posting my morning exploits on Tumblr while scanning my computer for viruses. Oh, and drinking coffee.

So I said to myself, “Just how hard can it be to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30?”

It’s on, National Novel Writing Month is around the corner and I’ve tossed my hat into the ring. We shall have to see just how far I can get towards completing a 50,000 word novel especially when you consider that I have no idea what to write about. It was, shall we say, an impulsive act to sign up for this challenge but now I am committed. Hmmm… Yes, that is a good idea so let me get back to work.
