There are many mysteries to be found in the world of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and today another one of these mysteries came to my attention. A friend and co-worker had mentioned today that he had written a review on the top 10 Android Apps for smartphones. This in and of itself was not curious but what he mentioned next caught my attention. Apparently he had posted this review to his blog and within a day, Google had crawled and indexed this page and it was already ranking quite highly in the search results for Android Apps. Arguably, Android Apps is a hot topic these days and it comes as no surprise that any content that makes mention of it would be picked up by the search engines. But it got me wondering. Does Google have either a special algorithm or human team that tracks hot topics and somehow manipulates search results containing them? Or was it simply good timing on the part of my friend and he just happened to post on a popular topic just prior to the regular crawl cycle with Google?
I jokingly mentioned that there may be a conspiracy involved here and to be perfectly honest I do not really believe there is any such conspiracy going on at Google to manipulate organic search. I chalk it up to being at the right place at the right time. Several new Android based smartphones have hit the market recently and there is a ton of interest in Android Apps so its no wonder that any site covering this trend would see a boost in traffic because of it. I’m just a little jealous because I am still rolling with a regular old Nokia cellphone and have not yet joined the ranks of the smartphone enabled human population.
